‘Never Be Mine’ is the latest single from Kings Elliot. Her second track of the year is a gut-wrenchingly personal account of “falling in love with the wrong person. Someone you know should and never will be yours, so why torture yourself? As I’ve had to learn the hard way, the heart wants what it wants, even if that leaves you in a state of devastation.” It’s her voice that draws you in first, singing delicately over a restrained accompaniment that lets her subtlety and nuance shine. As her lyrics become fierier, so does her voice; it amplifies and intensifies as the instruments around her grow louder, darker and more distorted, resulting in an almost punky, dark-pop world.
